Summary description

PwC has recently created the position of Chief Data Officer (CDO), charged with being the voice of data and generally representing data as a strategic business asset. The primary role of this new organization is to champion the use of data and information across the firm, and drive changes and improvements in data related operations, evolving PwC into a true data-driven organization. This office will help to enable the business, as well as provide insights related to attendant risks. Significant effort will be dedicated to determining PwC data related needs, and developing proposed solutions.

The CDO staff will identify where, when, how and why the business uses data, and transform it into information that serves clients. These include things such as the types of data that exist within the organization; where that data is stored; how the users access the data; the current business value and use of the data as well as the potential untapped use and value of the data. As PwC becomes a more data-driven organization, it is critical to develop leading-edge capabilities in business intelligence, data mining, data analytics, master data management and knowledge management in order to monetize data, provide more value to clients and successfully grow the business. Protecting the security and privacy of both client and internal information is critical to protecting the PwC brand.

Strategic & technical orientation / job content

This position will be responsible for planning and managing data related initiatives and operations. As such, the position requires deep understanding of PwC functions and processes, across all lines of service (LoS) and IFS functions, with particular attention to integration across the Firm. The position will be required to have thorough understanding of many facets of data and information governance and management.

Range of impact

The position will be responsible for translating the PwC/US member firm data strategy, and associated integration plans across all LoS and IFS functions.

Scope of responsibility

The position is responsible for managing processes changes and technology solutions, and for developing and managing associated budgets.

  • Data and information governance and management, data protection and information risk management, knowledge management, information lifecycle management, and the use of technology related to data and information.

  • Leveraging data analytics in understanding of business problems in the form of functional and technical requirements, and innovative thought leadership in data visualization.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of GCDO projects and initiatives

  • Collaborate as a liaison between GCDO, the xLoS and IFS functions

  • Collaborate with functional and technical groups to identify improvements in global data-related business processes, scope requirements, and impacts related to system and/or process changes

  • Knowledge of PwC’s internal organization and processes.

  • Ability to present information and insight to all levels within the organization.

  • Creating internal partnerships with key stakeholders; building, maintaining and utilizing networks of Los and IFS functional staff networks.

  • Defining and managing outreach protocol with relevant stakeholders; maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders

  • Supervising teams to create an atmosphere of trust; seeking diverse views to encourage improvement and innovation; and coaching staff, including providing timely and meaningful written and verbal feedback.

  • Creating and implementing program and project objectives, policies, processes, technology acquisition and deployment, training and communication.

  • Managing multiple workstreams within the team as well as direct reports; determine and manage team activity workflow and job priorities

  • Managing resource requirements, project workflow, budgets, and preparing to and/or coordinating complex written materials.

  • ​Managing, developing and coaching direct reports

  • Preferred experience would include portfolio/program/project management, client engagements, new technology deployment, shared services, outsourcing, records and information management, business process assessment

  • Desired relevant certifications, issued by the leading global professional associations, would include such things as:

  • Information Governance Professional (IGP)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
