Our Development Infrastructure team provide Civil Engineering professional services and technical expertise to WSP’s Private & Public sector clients on National & International development focused projects. The DI team works independently or as part of multi-disciplinary teams. Our Development Infrastructure teams apply their expertise in the fields of Flood Risk & Drainage, Utilities, Highways, External Works & Earthworks and CDM.

Our Development Infrastructure teams sit within WSP’s Planning Discipline which is part of WSP’s Planning & Advisory Strategic Business Unit (SBU).

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Associate to join our London Development Infrastructure team to support our ongoing and future project commitments. The individual will play a key role as a more senior member of the London team supporting the initiative to diversify our team, both in staff numbers and revenue.

A typical week would include:

  • Supporting all aspects associated with H&S / Corporate Responsibility and ensure the team complies with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality)

  • Winning work from key accounts and align the business to secure major opportunities and an increasing order book including experience of building new client relationships and maintaining existing client relationships;

The position will be very much centred on technical & project leadership, mentoring junior staff and managing our projects with the requirement to undertake client facing activities, work winning and operational management. The individual is expected to assist other senior team members across our four pillars (People, Clients, Technical & Operational Excellence) manage the team on a daily basis to ensure our client, project and staff needs are met and support senior leadership with the growth of the business.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE, MICHT or CIWEM);

  • Exhibiting and demonstrating behaviours and attitudes in accordance with WSP core values;

  • Good working knowledge of the Development Industry and associated markets / sectors;

  • Knowledge of and experience in highway design, drainage strategies and flood risk assessments, building and infrastructure drainage, external works design, earthworks design & analysis as well as utility design and planning;

  • Proven expertise in one of the above fields;

  • The ability to oversee and produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings;

  • A good knowledge of the relevant design codes such as Sewers for Adoption, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance and are well versed in the preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals

  • Expertise and knowledge of the relevant legal processes, planning, design, design software, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of sewers, SUDS, highways and utilities to new developments and regeneration projects and how if, applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a client’s development proposal

  • The ability to direct and check the use of relevant software including WINDES and Civils 3D and/or PDS or similar;

  • Experience of liaison with clients, co-professionals and design teams, and are competent in liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities to negotiate the necessary outline and detailed technical approvals and statutory agreements typically relating to development projects.                                       

  • Excellent inter-personal skills with good leadership and management abilities capable of communicating effectively with all parts of the business.

  • Robust experience of project, commercial & resource management, construction and appointment contracts;

  • Experience of acting as a Project Manager for single and multi-discipline projects and strategically important commissions;

  • A robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects                                                 

  • Experience of mentoring of junior colleagues and line management;
