BE1 is looking to strengthen its team through the recruitment of an Individual with a mechanical bias who can provide a combination of technical and project leadership.
We have an opportunity for an experienced data centre engineer to join our creative and friendly Building Engineering Team in London team.
You will be expected to have extensive data centre design experience have to led multi-disciplinary teams for data centres and mission critical projects through a variety of project and RIBA design stages. Projects will include the design of new build facilities as well as the improvement of existing facilities. The latter will involve undertaking site inspections and measurements, checking commissioning data, reviewing installations and the like.
In this role you will provide leadership to the MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally, having responsibility of ensuring correct technical approaches are applied on the project and staff are of suitable capabilities to undertake tasks required. you will be expected to have project management experience and will have responsibility for the financial performance of the projects including liaising directly with clients on fees and commercial matters, effectively overseeing total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Director. This will involve interactive and collaborative working with colleagues throughout our multidisciplinary teams.
As part of your role, you will be a recognized focal point for client contact within Arup and be able to influence strategically. This role will be responsible for a number of strategic aspects in relation to the mechanical portfolio and its delivery; ensuring that the overall interests of the Arup business are met.
Responsible and accountable for the overall design, technical delivery, quality and/or management of the MEP design of large, complex project – co-ordinating many different people/facilities/resources, etc. within defined budget and timescales
Take lead role in the Mechanical discipline, working alongside the group leadership team
Act as PM or MEP lead on major data centre / mission critical projects where Arup is lead consultant
Responsible for enhancing the capability and reputation of MEP in the group internally and externally
Contribution to the prediction and planning of future resources
Supporting recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale and motivation of specific staff within the team/group
Working with the Business area commercial lead to win work – new and repeat business.

As a member of the team in a leadership position, you will have strong communication, organisational and negotiating skills and experience in leading successful project/office teams. You will be a team player capable of imparting knowledge and experience to other members of the team in order to facilitate their growth and development.
You should have strong technical and client facing skills and be able to represent Arup externally with a proven track record in the mission critical business.

Skills and Capabilities:
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering
A Chartered Engineer
Extensive experience of large-scale and complex mission critical projects
Ability to provide technical leadership of multi-discipline design teams including external sub consultants
Ability to work with a range of clients in the mission critical sector and to represent Arup.
Ability to build a network of internal and external collaborators and clients in the sector
Strong awareness of appropriate sector specific legislation, code requirements and design guidance and future trends.
A good understanding of BIM and enthusiasm for driving digital transformation the way we work and what we deliver.
Enthusiasm for sustainable building design
Leading large-scale projects in the mission critical sector
Possess an excellent working knowledge of current Codes and Regulations and trends in relation to the mission critical industry
Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics using software such as 6Sigma 3D Datacentre Simulation
Familiarity with Uptime Institute and TIA942 guidance.
