Responsible for internal communication, engagement planning and advice for all work covering the People team within the Region. Ensuring high quality delivery of engagement strategies, campaigns, key announcements, internal news, transformation programme communications, member updates, internal campaigns and events. The role will work independently to resolve complex queries and is responsible for driving continuous improvement.

The Internal Communications and Engagement Lead will be required to shape the communication and engagement strategy for the People function. The individual will drive its implementation while ensuring clear alignment and coordination with the broader internal communication strategy across the Region. Responsible for creating, managing and delivering internal communications and engagement campaigns across UKIMEA Region.

Role Responsibility

  • Lead on the scoping, facilitation and planning for key internal communications and engagement activities. Working closely with key People Team members, Internal Communications team and Group People Team. In addition, working closely with business leaders across the Firm to ensure buy in for the determined approach and deliverables.

  • Ensure that within the People community, we all understand how the new People model works and our own role and responsibilities.

  • That our People community know how best to communicate and land new people services and initiatives across the Firm.

  • That effective channels are in place for feedback and suggestions for improvement. 

  • Engage with project leaders, business leaders, the People community across the Firm to understand communication needs, stakeholders and audiences and the context in which our communication is landing.

  • Challenge, educate and win over project owners and others who do not always appreciate the value of thoughtful communications planning and engagement - confidence in the need for and value of effective communication and the ability to push-back constructively are essential.

  • Shape and develop insight-driven content to meet a variety of communication channels including written, digital.

  • Write clear and simple messaging in an engaging tone of voice, using language that is appropriate in a creative and highly literate organisation full of busy people.

  • Have a basic understanding of People processes and jargon but be able to translate it into plain English

  • Presence - Stand up at the front of the room, not sit at the back and wait to be told what to do.

  • Maintain a passion for doing the right thing for the Arup,

Are you the right candidate?

You will be someone who has:

  • Curiosity, a desire to lean-in across the business to help move the People agenda forward in the context of communications and engagement. 

  • Significant experience in communicating transformation programmes effectively to a diverse audience.

  • The ability and enthusiasm to develop strategic, well considered plans and support on tactical implementation.

  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills and confidence in using a wide range of digital and social media.

  • Confident in managing relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders

  • Excellent organisation abilities and attention to detail with an ability to prioritise

  • The ability to analyse and contextualise complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical, simple and measurable plans to resolve problems.

Requirements and skills:

  • Ideally Degree educated - however we will consider people who are not degree qualified.

  • A results orientated internal communications and engagement professional   

  • Excellent written communication, copywriting and editing skills.

  • Excellent Digital skills with proficiency with Microsoft office and G-Suite

  • Ability to work quickly, against a deadline/changing deadline while maintaining quality.

  • Ability to write for various voices, using different tone or style to convey a message

  • Experience of advising and influencing stakeholders  

  • Proven ability to build, develop and sustain effective working relationships at all levels

  • Commercially and strategically astute

  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Good team working skills
