When you join Burges Salmon, you will be at the forefront of a market-leading team at an exciting time of expansion. You will benefit from the guidance, support and expertise of an award-winning Leadership team.
At Burges Salmon, we provide a collaborative, friendly and sociable setting in which to thrive and realise your potential and place great importance on professional development with a structured path to help lawyers to advance their career.
Our construction and engineering team is ranked Band 1, National Leader; we have "considerable expertise in both contentious and non-contentious matters" and according to one observer are “as good as any magic circle firm”. Four of our lawyers have individual rankings. (Chambers 2020).
Our widely respected team is one of the largest dedicated construction teams in the UK, with offices in London, Edinburgh and Bristol and a strong profile in the transport, infrastructure, energy and real estate sectors. The team is in a growth cycle reflecting the success of the team and the wider firm in key sectors.
We are looking for a qualified lawyer, with a focus on non-contentious real estate development and regeneration projects. You will join our construction and engineering team of 30+ lawyers as a PSL (Professional Support Lawyer), joining 2 current PSLs. Ideally your time will be split on a 50/50 basis across chargeable and PSL activities, however we are open to individuals who would like to focus 100% on PSL activities.
Part-Time/Flexible (3 days)
Your role will be diverse and engaging, spending your time supporting colleagues within the team and taking on some fee earning responsibilities.
In your fee earning capacity you will provide senior supervision and support to the non-contentious real estate development and regeneration practice. It would also be beneficial if you had the ability to assist on contentious matters and to provide assistance on energy and infrastructure matters from time to time.
You will have significant experience of taking a lead role in drafting and negotiating construction documentation for real estate development and regeneration projects and will provide strategic input to that practice. It is not expected that you will be a Matter Executive on files.
As a non-fee earner you will help to manage the team’s investment time activities. This will include planning/delivering team training, promoting knowledge sharing and producing/managing the team’s know-how and precedents. You will also get involved in the team’s marketing efforts including assistance with the collation of legal directory submissions, published articles and other marketing materials. You will also help to champion the development of technology and efficiency initiatives within the team.
The PSL team has a dedicated Apprentice Solicitor to support PSL activities. Together with the other PSLs you would provide supervisory support to the Apprentice Solicitor.
We are looking for a qualified lawyer who is ambitious, solutions-focused and with an interest in the built environment, who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills across a variety of project-types and sectors in what is a fast changing landscape.
You will have strong recent and relevant work experience advising on engineering and construction contracts in the real estate sector and at least one of our other key sectors. You will be a strong team player, able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively, and eager to accelerate your development and that of the wider team and firm.
We are committed to finding the right person for this role and are open to discussing flexible working patterns and office location.
