EC Project Manager (Part Time)

The role:

The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT) is seeking a part-time Project Manager to undertake key project management responsibilities for the Innovative Training Network MENTOR.  The project is funded by the European Commission (EC) Horizon 2020 programme and is part of the Marie Sklodowsca Curie Actions.

The position will suit candidates with some experience in managing medium and large-scale collaborative research and innovation projects, and with knowledge of EU Framework Programme funding.

This is a good opportunity to become a member of the dynamic and experienced EC project management team at AiPT, an institute within Aston University with a long-standing track-record of successful implementation of EC-funded collaborative research projects and training network. The successful appointee will have the opportunity to integrate fully and beyond their immediate project responsibilities into the AiPT Project Management team and take on additional responsibilities, such as contributing to the proposal writing of new funding application.

Applicants should be available to start the new role in early 2021.

MENTOR is a European Training Network (ETN) and has 6 beneficiaries and 2 partners across several European countries. The post holder will be overall responsible for the project coordination, management and contractual obligations and provide top-level project management services to MENTOR supervisory Board, ensuring that the objectives, time-scales and anticipated deliverables are met, and that the overall budget is effectively monitored and adhered to. The post holder will be providing general support to the MENTOR Project Coordinator (Prof Sergei K. Turitsyn), assisting the project partners, maintaining the project records and web site, reporting to funders and organizing meetings and events and proactively driving the project forward from the kick-off stage until project closure.  The successful candidate will be expected to offer advice on all EU's H2020 contractual and financial matters to MENTOR’s international project partners. Post COVID, the role will involve some travel abroad (within Europe).

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level, and have experience of managing large, multi-national, multi-million externally grant-funded projects, in particular European Commission funded projects, with proven experience in successfully implementing multi-partner projects.
