About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to join our Human Capital (HC) team as a Business Unit Human Capital Manager (BU HCM) (equivalent to HR Business partner). The individual will develop a detailed understanding of the BU employee population and utilise this breadth of knowledge to identify people trends, highlight areas of people risk that could impact delivery of business strategy and drive implementation of HC Solutions within their Business Units, whilst working with their Senior HC Manager (equivalent to Senior HR Business partner) to understand and deliver the people strategy including performance, talent and engagement in a commercial way.

The BU HC Manager will develop close working relationships with senior stakeholders in their business such as Business Unit Leaders, People Partners, Group Leaders, Career Coaches and Resourcing, alongside building relationships with other colleagues within the BU HCM and the Senior HC Manager community, our Employee Relations & Policy Advice team, HC Operations Management team, HC Direct, and the People teams.

Key areas of responsibility include

Commercial Advisor

  • Advise the BU on how to implement the Firmwide and LoS People Plan

  • Build close and trusted relationships with partners and employees, providing support and constructive challenge

  • Act as day-to-day contact for the BU, advising the BU in making changes to their organisation or sensitive people decisions/activities, e.g., redeployment, underperformance

  • Have a deep understanding of the employee population, e.g. salary details, when and how many people should be promoted and work with the FFY hub to ensure this local knowledge is passed on and informs their activities

  • Undertake analysis of business metrics and data to provide insights

  • Understanding of BU headcount, number of PIPs etc to identify areas that must be addressed, continuously monitoring internal ‘weak signals’ to pre-empt potential people risk

  • Provide coaching and support to relationship leaders and career coaches to inspire and drive development of high performing, engaged teams through appropriate interventions

  • Through regular conversations with partners and employees gain deep awareness of the ‘pulse’ of the BU and use this to inform and shape local BU activities.

One Firm Integrator

  • Execute projects and activities within BU to support implementation of the Firmwide and LoS People Plans, enabling delivery of the business strategy

  • Provide support with the implementation of BU specific programmes, e.g., a culture change programme that should be implemented in a BU

Operational HC Excellence

  • Ensure coordinated delivery of high quality HC support to the BU

  • Responsible for consistent implementation of cyclical processes, with support from the HC Operations Management team, identifying and escalating where any BU specific challenges arise to the Senior HC Manager or LoS HCL as needed.

  • Support BU in assessing talent and identifying critical roles

  • Lead formal TRG and moderation up to senior manager, facilitate talent calibration and succession planning. Working with the HC Service Delivery team for preparation and delivery support

  • Ensure collective actions arising from the talent review are completed, integrated into overall people plan and monitored for impact on organisation effectiveness and that talent development is happening throughout the year

  • Ensure the business is taking advantage of learning and development resources available through L&D

  • Ensure an inclusive and diverse workplace which reflects the communities in which the Firm operates, providing coaching to the BU to promote and maintain an environment of respect and inclusion

  • Advise the BU on how to recognise, reward and motivate teams in alignment with the business strategy and people plan working in partnership with our Talent, Performance and Reward People Team.

  • Advise the BU how to hold quality reward conversations and manage reward and recognition specific projects as appropriate with the Talent, Performance and Reward People Team

  • Oversea case management working with the specialist team and provide advice, insights and updates to key stakeholders.

  • Take individual pre-emptive action where ER risk arises in the business and provide business input/context into ER cases managed by ERPA

  • Keep up to date with progression of cases through use of self service reporting tools] and provide regular progress updates to the business

  • Ensure partners and staff are directed to the right part of HC to deal with their queries – for example disciplinaries and all other cases should be directed to ERPA


This role is being offered on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract basis
