As a senior member of the Project Delivery team, you will play a key role in the provision of departmental priorities at the Home Office.

Job Responsibilities
Senior Project Managers will be assigned to more complex projects, or those carrying a higher degree of reputational risk. You could be leading a single standalone project or a project within a wider programme or portfolio. In all cases you should expect to work in an environment of considerable uncertainty and political sensitivity.

You may also have to manage a number of high profile stakeholders with conflicting priorities. Procedures and methodologies will often need to be tailored or adapted to suit unique situations. You will have effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. The roles will offer an excellent opportunity to hone and develop your project delivery skills. There will certainly be scope for those who excel and demonstrate ability to progress within the Project Delivery Profession.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Have significant experience in delivering either complex or high risk projects within agreed time, cost and quality constraints. You will have achieved this using your expert knowledge of project management tools and methodologies, and be capable of designing a project structure and organisation to meet the requirements of the project according to its point in the lifecycle

  • Be experienced and credible in dealing with a broad and complex range of stakeholders, with the confidence to engage with senior officials and ministers. You will have a proactive approach, seek out opportunities to effectively engage, and be used to operating with a high degree of autonomy

  • Be an experienced people manager, able to build and develop a high performing and motivated project team. You will be tuned in to the needs of the business, ready to flex structures to ensure that your project team remains aligned with delivery goals and wider strategy.

  • Have managed a project through the key stages in its lifecycle, from agreeing vision to project closure.

  • Have successfully delivered transformation outcomes, able to understand project objectives, the wider strategic organisational context, and how to manage the relationship between the two. It is important therefore that you are comfortable networking throughout the business, challenging and influencing decision making when required.

  • Those wishing to be considered for technical project manager roles will also need to demonstrate:

  • Solid understanding of the technical and architectural environment and a demonstrable experience of using and maintaining processes, tools and techniques to ensure that services to be transitioned to Live are planned, tested and validated in all deployment activities. You will also be adept at critically appraising test approaches, plans and results from a risk based perspective.

  • You will have a recognised accreditation in professional project management such as:

  • PRINCE2 Practitioner

  • Agile Project Management Practitioner

  • APM Practitioner Qualification

  • APM Registered Project Professional

  • Project Leadership Programme or other related qualification.
