The Peace + Riot Family

Set up by South London parent of two, Caroline Newte Hardie, Peace + Riot is a brand-new concept providing a unique co-working/leisure/hospitality space with childcare on site. Our childcare offer works in the same way a home-help would, except – bonus - you’re not at home. Excellent imaginative, educational activities are provided for the children to engage, education and enrich. Caroline’s 15-year career in Education and Management Consultancy, and 6 years as parent, has given her a great foundation to build the business and concept whilst knowing the market and the demands of our customers. Peace + Riot is there to support new families navigating their way through an ever-changing landscape of demands and expectations.

Our aim is to ensure that kids can have the freedom to be themselves and grown-ups can have the space to work, meet new people, attend events or just to take time out and have a well-deserved break.

We are aiming to open our doors as soon as is practically possible in early summer and are now starting the ball rolling looking for a General Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities that managing such a unique space involves.

Our General Manager Dynamic Duo will be the faces of Peace + Riot, this is a jobshare role because we want to find a unique combination of hospitality and childcare experience for our brand new concept.

It will be your combined purpose to direct and oversee the kitchen and serving staff, as well as managing our teams of child-carers (‘Peace Keepers’) and ensuring that the level of customer service provided is kept to an exceptionally high standard.

You will ensure that day-to-day operations align with the company’s vision and values and ensure that staff are supported and given the space and support to shine in their roles.

You will need to establish and sustain a positive, happy environment for kids and grown-ups. A place where you enjoy working and that shines through in what you do.

Providing great service and genuine hospitality is key as well as the ability to work within a team – leading from the front.

We are a small independent, and this an opportunity to shape our offer as we grow.

The Dynamic Duo we need -

Together, our General Managers will have a demonstrable experience in both hospitality and childcare. This is an ideal role for returners looking for a new challenge.

Hospitality: You will need at least 2 years of managing a busy café, restaurant, or even workspace with onsite café (although it would be ideal to have 4 years or more). You will also hold at least a Level 4 Qualification in Hospitality Management or equivalent. You will be required to hold a personal licence and be the designated premises supervisor.

Experienced in rota planning, you will also be confident in managing budgets and all financial aspects of a business and should excel in and be comfortable with managing staff and have a demonstrable experience of doing so.

As our company provides such a unique experience, we require our General Manager to be proactive and to be able to handle whatever each day throws at you and will thrive under pressure.

Childcare: You will have at least 2 years’ experience (although it would be ideal to have 4 years or more), working as either a Primary School teacher with leadership experience, Nursery/Creche Team/Room Leader, or Nanny/Childminder with proven leadership in past roles. You must have at least a basic understanding of EYFS.

Getting this aspect of the concept right is what will make the Peace + Riot concept really sing. You will be responsible for the training/development, support and management of Peace + Riot’s Peace Keepers.

Ensuring that the environment is positive, happy and safe for kids to play and be actively engaged is paramount, where parents can feel reassured that they can work, or just relax, whilst their children are cared for.

Due to working in a childcare environment you must both be able to provide a clear, current enhanced DBS check. We also need to ensure that one of you is a personal licence holder, and if not, you must be willing to complete the training and it will be a condition of job offer.
