Head of IT

The role:

Contracted Hours: 30 hours per week

Salary: £40,000 per annum (pro-rated amount)

Location: Bristol Zoo Gardens & Wild Place Project

Contract Type: Permanent, Part-time

The person will contribute to the development and implementation of an IT strategy to support the Society’s growth and take full responsibility for its delivery, including maintaining IT infrastructure, day to day service to the organization and managing ongoing modernisation and improvement.

This will suit a strong all rounder, who is equally comfortable contributing to strategic direction, as they are rolling up their sleeves to configure equipment or troubleshoot IT issues.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Contribute to the future strategy of the Society as part of the senior management team and help drive innovation and change

  • Manage the entire IT infrastructure and software estate, across all business areas

  • Lead on the design and implementation of Office 365 across the Society

  • Review server infrastructure and oversee/assist with changes.

  • Oversee all network and firewall design and management.

  • Manage and develop the small in-house IT team

  • Manage all third party contracts and relationships, ensuring value for money

  • To be responsible for preparing, managing and controlling agreed budgets ensuring that all financial targets are achieved

  • To develop business cases and financial analysis for review by the Executive Board for proposed investment in IT infrastructure or consideration of new contracts

  • Oversee all IT related projects to ensure these are meeting the expectations and needs of the Society

  • Provide hands on assistance to IT Technician to provide front line support to colleagues, including holiday and out of hours cover where necessary.

  • Maintain and improvement all IT policies and operating processes, to support the needs of the business, ensure security is suitable and robust and that business continuity plans are in place and tested.

  • Interact with all departments and areas of the business to identify improvements and make pro-active suggestions
