About the Role
We’re looking for an In-house Commercial Lawyer to join us in Manchester. Joining our expanding legal function you will report to our Legal Counsel and will deal with a broad spectrum of legal issues. As a subject matter expert in an innovative, FTSE 100 tech business you will be critical in ensuring that we facilitate our aim to lead the digital future of the UK automotive marketplace whilst protecting our assets and considering risks.
Working closely with our Legal Counsel you will offer support and guidance to a variety of stakeholders across multiple business areas including technology, partnerships, product and advertising. You will be encouraged and empowered to lead on a number of projects with the full support of the Legal Counsel. Your role will be diverse and will include: advising on marketing and advertising content, such as TV commercials and digital campaigns; drafting product/service terms and conditions; agreeing complex commercial contracts with our partners, suppliers and customers; and advising on new product launches from inception to go live. Alongside this you will assist with the management of external counsel, where required and appropriate, to ensure any external advice is delivered in a cost-effective manner.
What we're looking for
You will be a qualified solicitor with around 5 years PQE*, but we have an open mind and would consider candidates with more or less experience than this. You might already be working in an in-house role or you could be ready to move into your first in-house role, and have some relevant secondment experience. You will have a strong grounding in leading on the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts including IT/technology/creative/software and marketing contracts. This will include drafting clauses and contracts for which no templates exist. It is also essential that you have a working knowledge of intellectual property, with a focus on copyright and trademarks.
Through your PQE experience you will have developed a commercial and pragmatic approach that allows you to make informed decisions autonomously. We love working in an Agile environment and value collaboration so it’s important that you’re flexible in your approach and are a great relationship builder. Your strong communication and influencing skills will allow you to communicate complex legal issues in a way that suits the audience’s need.
In addition to the above essential requirements, we would be particularly interested in candidates that have experience of advising on marketing/advertising content, including a working knowledge of the Advertising Standards Authority and CAP/BCAP codes. Experience in advising on adtech/programmatic advertising and competition law generally would also be advantageous. Finally, experience of negotiating and advising on data processing agreements would also be desirable.
