Summary and Purpose: 

Responsible for working with finance department and management to provide quality information to help make strategic management decisions. Accountability for preparing, developing and applying findings from financial reports. You will oversee accounting procedures and help prepare forecasts, budgets and variance analysis. 

Main Duties 

  • Record financial transactions including sales invoices and month end journals 

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis and commentaries in line with month end timetable 

  • Provide a support service by working with all departments and the management team to help make financial decisions 

  • Ensure spending is kept in line with the budget 

  • Inform key strategic decisions and formulate business strategies 

  • Advise on the financial implications of business decisions 

  • Analyse financial performance and contribute to medium and long-term business planning and forecasts 

  • Offer professional judgement on financial matters and advise on ways of improving business performance 

  • Interpret and communicate financial data to non-financial managers 

  • Liaise with other function managers to put finances and accounts in context 

  • Monitor and evaluate financial information systems and suggest improvements where needed 

  • Implement corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls. 

  • Maintain records and support audit effort 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Supervise staff 

  • Liaise with management and other colleagues. 

  • Ad-hoc projects 

Compliance & Training 

  • Adhere to all company & regulatory policies and procedures as instructed 

  • Carry out all training provided to deadlines prescribed 

  • Work with compliance on IT relevant areas such as Data Security and Financial Crime 

  • Execute the responsibilities of a company employee acting in a lawful and ethical manner in accordance with your contract of employment and company staff handbook 

  • Work with department manager for own professional development, including performance appraisal and identifying and meeting training needs in order to ensure competence and compliance with current regulations 

Experience Required 

  • Proven experience as management accountant, finance manager or similar role 

  • Experience in a fast-growing SME, software/technology desirable. 

Education / Training / Qualifications required 

  • Relevant certification (e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA) 

  • Educated to degree level 

Knowledge / Skills / Attributes required 

  • Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices 

  • Understanding of finance regulations and legislation 

  • Excellent knowledge of cost accounting and reporting 

  • Working knowledge of financial software (Xero desirable) and MS Office

  • Ability to work remotely during current lockdown guidelines
