Xenia is a grassroots women’s organisation on a mission to create more inclusive, equal and welcoming communities. Founded in 2016, we deliver weekly workshops in Hackney, London (and now online) and this year launched a programme of training and resources for others to learn from our model.
Participants are at the heart of the Xenia community. Migrant, refugee, asylum seeking and British women come together as active equals at our workshops to connect, share and learn. Together we create a community that supports practising spoken English, reduces social isolation, connects different cultures, and gives underrepresented women access to civic and democratic opportunities to make their voices heard.
As an organisation Xenia is non-hierarchical and participatory, meaning decisions are made collectively and proactively informed by participant involvement. The organisation is run by a volunteer-led Organising Team, with several members taking on more responsibility and additional work as self-employed members of a small staff team (who are all paid the same rate). We are a young and ambitious organisation, and we aspire to develop and grow in a way that is both sustainable and true to our values.
This is where you come in. We are looking for the newest member of Xenia’s staff team to drive our growth forward, with the dedicated support of other members of the Organising Team and Trustee Board. This role is right for you if you are energetic, generous in your leadership, and detailed in your approach. You will have a strong desire to work in a non-hierarchical setting, a good understanding of migrant women’s lives, and an unwavering commitment to equality and inclusion. You will have experience of raising funds from varied sources, with excellent communication skills that are adaptable to different people and situations. Most of all, you will be excited by the work that Xenia does and passionate about our mission.
Xenia has a strong commitment to equality and inclusion in all aspects of its work. We actively seek out ways to prevent and combat all forms of prejudice and oppression in our workshops as well as in our working practises. The culture within the Xenia team is supportive, inclusive and oriented around the capabilities and needs of individuals as well as the organisation as a whole. We operate a Peer Support Circle for all Organising Team members, which rotates monthly and provides a one-on- one opportunity for all team members to discuss their tasks and role as well as raise issues for fortnightly Organising Team meetings.

Role Title Organiser – Development & Operations
Time commitment 2 days/week (flexible Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays)

Salary £150 per day (flat rate across the organisation)
Location Combination of remote and co-working at office in Hackney
