P&C Financial Risk and Insights manager – Part-time / full-time / job-share

Location: London (although other locations will be considered)


The opportunity:  

As P&C Financial Risk and Insights manager you will lead the team responsible for Zurich UK’s General Insurance economic and capital modelling, providing oversight of financial risks on behalf of the Head of Financial Risk and Insights. This role will require the maintenance of key relationships, with regular interaction with key stakeholders in Reserving, Pricing and Underwriting. You will challenge the capital adequacy of the business and engage with the Deputy CRO for P&C to ensure adoption and adherence of effective risk management in the business, alongside providing technical risk opinions to the business. You will promote a culture of sound risk awareness to increase risk identification and mitigation and will help to implement processes to ensure alignment with strategic business objectives and risk appetite.

This is an exciting opportunity suited to an experienced GI actuary with expertise in internal models and a wide-ranging experience of actuarial analysis and modelling to join the Risk team overseeing the largest EEA branch in the UK market.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead role supporting the CRO to discharge his Internal Model responsibilities for the UK branch of an EEA entity, working with the Irish parent entity and Zurich Group teams

  • Oversee the implementation of the group risk management framework within the P&C financial risk and modelling team

  • Operate an effective financial risk framework, providing technical risks opinions to the business, including opinions on business plan, appetite limits and tolerances, product design and performance, capital analysis

  • Lead the work on the risk and capital deliveries for key strategic projects

  • Support the engagement with the UK governing body and UK regulator

  • Lead the engagement between the UK Risk function and key stakeholders in the pricing, reserving, finance, reinsurance, underwriting and independent validation functions

  • Manage and coach the P&C financial risk and insights team - currently a team of 4

  • Deliver the Risk inputs to the regular CRO reports to the Risk and Controls Committee and the external regulatory reporting (ORSA and RSR)

  • Provide consistent, reliable and timely delivery of risk information to relevant decision-making and governance bodies

  • Work collaboratively with the other functions across Risk 

Your skills and experience:

  • GI actuary with 5+ years of post-qualification

  • Experience of internal models and risk, deep technical understanding of Solvency II

  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of the insurance industry

  • Experience in leading a team and managing broad stakeholder relationships

  • Experience of engaging with the UK regulators (IMAP expertise)

  • Strong influencing skills and experience of working with and influencing senior management
