JOB PURPOSE / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Accountant provides essential support to the finance team. They will report to the Senior Accounts Officer and the Senior Management Team and deliver crucial day to day support, spanning the full mix of financial duties, tasks include:

  • Effective, accurate and extensive use of SAGE 50 Professional;
  • Carry out all tasks within the constraints of current GDPR legislation;
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts;
  • Maintenance of sales invoices and reports;
  • Reconciliation, including posting and balancing;
  • Forecasting and budgeting, including variance analysis;
  • Year end audit analysis;
  • Preparation of reports on debtors and creditors;
  • Completion of quarterly VAT returns;
  • Maintaining all necessary records including invoices, expenses, payments and transactions;
  • Management of ledgers;
  • Accruals and pre-payments;
  • Ensuring high quality reporting and robust processes are in place to support the team;
  • Have good working knowledge of MS Office applications;
  • Use CRM systems effectively to access and manage customer and supplier records;
  • Providing general finance advice and assistance as required;
  • Any other duties as directed by line manager;

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Similar accounting experience and/or background in finance;
  • Excellent MS Office skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Accounting related qualification achieved or part qualified, such as AAT/ CIMA or ACCA;

COMPETENCIES/KEY CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Be enthusiastic and motivated;
  • Be able to communicate in spoken and written English effectively and to a high standard;
  • Have in depth experience of using SAGE 50 Accounts software;
  • Possess first rate MS Excel skills and knowledge of formulas and functions as relevant to accounting activities;
  • Have strong organisational skills;
  • Highly proficient in maths;
  • Have an eye for detail;
  • Be able to use MS Office applications efficiently;
  • Be able to work in teams effectively;
  • Be prepared to use their own initiative;
  • Have an clear understanding of business processes and accounting functions;

HOURS OF WORK:

Part time hours, preferably 22 to 24 hours per week, staggered days Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
