Part time Tax Manager

Our client is a growing £500m group who seek to hire a Part time Tax Manager (3-4 days a week). This role will report to the Head of Tax.

The Tax Compliance Manager will work alongside the Head of Tax who is responsible for day-to-day management and delivery of the UK and overseas VAT compliance, corporate tax compliance and associated accounting reconciliations for the group’s businesses. Corporation tax compliance is managed in partnership with a third-party outsourcer, as is European VAT compliance. UK and Irish VAT returns are managed in-house. The role does not include payroll tax responsibilities.

The Tax Compliance Manager reports to the Head of Tax and sits within the team based at the vibrant and busy business in Reading. The team currently comprises the Head of Tax, an Operational VAT Manager, a Tax Compliance Manager and two Tax Analysts. The analysts provide support to all activities of the tax team but are largely focused on supporting the Tax Compliance Manager in delivering corporate tax and VAT reporting services to the group. Coaching and development of the team is a valuable part of the role.

The team has significant indirect tax experience which the Tax Compliance Manager can draw on to support the indirect tax aspects of the role and for personal development. Knowledge of indirect tax is therefore less important than a good understanding of accounting, risk management and financial governance principles. Knowledge of corporate tax principles is an advantage. Support for further development and tax qualifications, if not already held, is available.

Quality of delivery is a key metric for the role and how this is managed can be flexible provided results are achieved. The role includes scope for involvement in tax technology and continuous improvement projects.

· Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of VAT and corporate tax returns for the group

· Ensuring tax payments are made on time

· Assisting with preparation of tax budgets and provisions for the statutory accounts

· Managing the transition of new acquisitions into the tax compliance process

· Ensuring that processes adhere to sound tax governance principles, including SAO

· Leading the relationship with outsourced compliance service providers

· Coaching and supporting the tax analysts

· Providing support to the Head of Tax in technical tax matters

· Partnering with the central Finance team and individual business finance teams to ensure a smooth and timely flow of information

· Assisting the team and wider finance function to Identify and implement process improvements including the use of tax technology to ensure an appropriate pace of change for developments in global digital reporting.

· Depending on the applicant, the role could include some tax advisory and project work.

A salary of £45,000-£60,000 is on offer dependant on experience plus benefits.
