We are looking for a

part-time (50% FTE) IT Manager to work in the NDS Tissue Handling Platform (NDS-THP) team, based both in the Oxford Radcliffe Biobank (ORB) within NDS at the John Radcliffe Hospital and in other departments hosting ORB samples. The primary focus of this technical role will be co-ordinating the roll-out of the new sample inventory software (OpenSpecimen) in ORB and other teams, and to support quality improvements across both the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) tissue handling platform (NDS-THP), the Oxford Radcliffe Biobank’s (ORB) multiple tissue collections within the Trust and University and the Oxford Centre for Histopathology Research, OCHRe. This will require the post holder to establish close working relationships with the NDS and ORB / OCHRe teams. This is a busy role in a fast moving research environment and so adaptability to new and rapidly changing situations is important, along with excellent organisational skills and flexibility. You will be educated to degree level and will have extensive experience of developing complete computer applications; from gathering user requirements, through development and testing to implementation and support. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact confidently with a broad range of users and deliver comprehensive training are essential. You will also be experienced in web-based technologies: HTML, JavaScript, XML and Java, and have a good understanding of networking techniques and their applications to ensure security and integrity of data and systems, together with excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and especially Excel) and the ability and willingness to use other systems, as required. Due to social distancing, it is likely this will be at least partly home-based for a significant proportion of the early months, until restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic are removed. This part-time post (50% FTE) is available immediately and is fixed-term for 20 months. We are willing to consider an increased number of working hours for a shorter contract. This will be negotiated with the successful candidate upon appointment.
