The role:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, diligent Operations Specialist to join our Payment Operations team in London, and help us build an amazing operational function across payments and finance.

This isn’t banking as you know it — we are fast, agile and expect you to take ownership. We’re focused on our end goal of making money work for everyone. Today we have over 4 million amazing customers and a UK banking licence. We’ve done this with a small, talented team, but we’re growing. Fast. One of our (many) next key missions is to evolve what we’ve built so far into a profitable, sustainable business.

Payment Operations sits at the very core of our Payments and Finance Department. You’ll be joining a small team of specialists in our London office, responsible for managing the critical payments processes that keep Monzo running smoothly. You’ll help us continuously improve our processes to adapt to our ever changing demands, and will have the opportunity to work with the wider payments engineering team to develop innovative, technology led solutions.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Managing cash in our corporate accounts and processing critical high value business payments.

  • Carrying out tasks which need to happen like clockwork to ensure payments work flawlessly for our customers. This includes processing exceptions, and physical cheque operations.

  • Handling all inbound post for Monzo Bank; ensuring cheques and letters are scanned for processing by relevant teams.

  • Promptly dealing with escalations and queries from our Customer Operations team.

  • Maintaining existing and creating new procedural documentation.

  • Actively seeking efficiency improvements to processes, and working closely with Analysts and Engineers to implement these.

  • Carrying out important checks to ensure our accounts reconcile, identifying discrepancies, and resolving them.

  • Supporting the wider Payments and Finance team with ad-hoc requests and projects.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with our third party vendors. Ensuring the service provided is to a high standard and making recommendations to improve and streamline processes and interactions.

You should apply if:

  • Ideally, you have some experience in an operational role in banking or finance, but this isn’t essential!

  • You can adapt to new systems easily

  • You have a high attention to detail and delight in investigating and solving issues for people

  • You have a keen eye for process improvements

  • You thrive in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment

  • You’re a self-starter and are hands-on

  • What we’re doing at Monzo excites you!

Salary is around £30k plus stock options and other benefits.

You must be able to work from our London office, where the role is based. You can work from home occasionally, as long as it works for the rest of the team.

Diversity and inclusion is a priority for us – if we want to solve problems for people around the world, our team has to represent our customers. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them. You can read more about diversity and inclusion on our blog.

If you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.

The application process consists of a 30mins phone call with a recruiter, followed by a practical written exercise and 2 on-site interviews remotely via hangouts. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions.
