Purpose of role

Dentons’ Dispute Resolution team is seeking an experienced disputes lawyer to join its existing professional development lawyer (PDL) team, either full time or four days a week. The role can be based either from our office in London or from our office in Milton Keynes, with remote working for part of each week.

This role will support a 20 partner team in England. We are supported by a Managing PDL for Scotland therefore this role will not cover Scotland, although the successful candidate will work closely with our Scottish MPDL.

Our Dispute Resolution team covers a wide range of dispute work including commercial litigation, financial markets disputes, restructuring and insolvency, international arbitration, fraud and white collar crime, trade and sanctions and regulatory matters. We have two part-time PDLs supporting the financial markets team and the restructuring and insolvency teams in England.

This role would ideally suit a 5 year + PQE disputes lawyer looking to transition in to a commercially focussed PDL role or an experienced PDL. In addition to a strong grounding in the Civil Procedure Rules, candidates would ideally also have expertise in at least one of the following areas: international arbitration; regulatory; and / or international trade. 


Current awareness and horizon scanning:

With others, you will help share information and develop marketing materials – both internally and with clients - about key legal, regulatory and procedural developments affecting clients of the disputes practice.


You will work with the team to review and maintain a suite of standard form precedent documentation.


You will contribute to internal (including for trainees and qualified lawyers) and client training programmes by organising, writing and delivering training sessions.

Legal service delivery and innovation:

You will contribute to the team's drive to streamline our processes while ensuring we continue to deliver the best quality advice to our clients. This may involve participating or organising trials of technological products, using and championing cost budgeting tools, using legal project management tools and using document automation tools to speed up document production. You may be involved in trialling new technologies and responding to new legal developments such as Brexit.

Case support:

As an integral part of our Dispute Resolution team, you can expect to provide regular advice or act as a sounding board for queries, ranging from basic questions from trainees to research tasks from partners and other experienced lawyers.

Additional Responsibilities:

Dealing with client panel requirements, such as any client precedents views, legislation tracing, horizon scanning, maintenance of client know-how portals.

Liaising with global, regional and local professional development lawyers, business development team members and knowledge management professionals serving other practice/industry groups, sharing best practices with them and learning from them.

Identifying knowledge-related services which might be utilised to deepen the Dispute Resolution group's relationships with key clients as part of the firm's overall client relationship management efforts.

Establishing/developing relationships with third party service providers (e.g., external costs draftsmen, e-disclosure providers, Chambers etc).
