The opportunity: 

A new opportunity has arisen to join the UK Public Affairs Team as Public Affairs Officer.  You will report to the Public Affairs Manager and support the UK Head of Public Affairs and Sustainability in managing Zurich’s relationships with key external stakeholders.

You will support the team in Zurich’s interaction with government departments, MPs and select committees. You will assist in responding to consultations and inquiries and providing internal briefings on political stakeholders and events. You will proactively analyse political developments and their impact on the business and alert relevant internal stakeholders in a timely manner.

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conducts research and supports implementation of integrated communications and policy campaigns developed and initiated by the Public Affairs, Media and wider business leadership.

  • Helps develop the organisation’s position and public policy strategy and coordinates with internal & external stakeholders.

  • Undertakes project planning, coordination and integration of activities.

  • Supports the team’s strategic relationships with regulators and government officials to ensure a favourable public policy environment for the organisation.

  • Monitors and gathers information and analyses key trends and topics to make recommendations to inform senior leadership on the public policy environment of the organisation.

  • Prepares draft papers on public policy issues to ensure regular reporting and positive external communication.

  • Identifies possible issues/opportunities in the public policy environment and assists in developing/scoping solutions for these.

  • Assists in managing relationships with industry bodies to derive best value from any memberships.

  • Model behaviours that demonstrate commitment to corporate values.

  • Provide support for the rest of the team.

  • Take action to manage own personal development and encourage others to do the same. 

Your skills and experience: 

  • You will have detailed knowledge of and experience of working within the UK’s political system and public policy environment

  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to distil complex information into explanatory briefings

  • You will have an ability to pick up and decipher information across a range of policy areas

  • You will have some experience of building and managing relationships

  • You will be a self-starter, highly organised with a strong attention to detail

  • Ideally you will have some experience of the insurance or financial services sector

  • You will be educated to degree level or above with politics or social sciences as a subject

  • Speech writing skills are desirable
