A Process Engineer is a specialised role that uses BPM technologies (i.e. business process management solutions, business rules tools) to deliver solutions that support configurable but aligned business processes that allow for flows that support users’ goals and expected outcomes.
A working knowledge of enterprise/business architecture, planning, and business analysis will help the process engineer gain as much alignment of the requirements as possible, and the solution will then be designed to follow the common process, and have configurable rules in place which will allow for territory configurations to support e.g. regulatory requirements.
Includes the ability to define new end to end Business processes / workflows that cross multiple solutions and he/she will also identify process inefficiencies in existing processes and look to optimise them where possible.
Also important is the ability to apply x-territory and x-LoS thinking to business solution design and work closely with UX/UI designers and strategists to enable users of the system to traverse the underlying technologies supporting the process as seamlessly as possible.
Being able to draw inferences from process details and connect them to the big picture by considering business objectives and end user needs in identifying process improvements, the Process Engineer typically has the ability to structure a large amount of information within a process framework.
Responsibilities and deliverables:
Work with business teams (key stakeholders both management and operational) and the BOS Solution teams to understand existing project processes and to design new cross-project processes and solve process-related problems. This will involve mapping existing processes and working with cross-functional teams to design and capture future business process requirements”
Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding.
Interpret differing business needs and terminology into a common understanding that are documented as business requirements. These will form the basis for the functional requirements for the relevant BOS solutions.
Analyse business processes and workflows with the objective of finding out how they can be improved or automated.
The primary Business Process deliverables (related to “to be processes”) that this role will be developing include:
Business objectives and high level business requirements of processes
Business scenarios and use cases aligned to the processes (when applicable)
Information/Data models enabling the processes (working with data architects)
User Experience requirements of the processes (aligning with the UX/UI designers)
Process flow(s) - diagrammatic and written descriptions of the processes
Business rules for the processes
Measurable outcomes to track progress towards business objectives and user needs
Key skills and experience:
Process Engineers must be able to see the big picture, understand project objectives and be able to apply their understanding of how processes should work to operational improvement initiatives
Good understanding of the professional services industry, ideally with a Big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm
Knowledge of process mapping and business process reengineering.
Lead process (re)design workshops with stakeholders of all levels in an organization that involve eliciting process requirements and liaising with users
Documentation of workflows, process maps, business rules.
Assess and document potential change impacts (on people, process and technology) of the “to be” process designs.
Applying their knowledge of business process modelling notations (BPMN, DMN, EPC, BPEL) to documenting processes.
Understanding of how ERP, BPM, CRM and BI tools operate and a demonstrable experience of various tools within this area
