Risk Actuary – (P/T, job-share or F/T)

Location: Swindon (other locations will be considered)

The opportunity:  

As a Risk Actuary, within the Life and Pensions Financial Risk and Insights team, you will support financial risk oversight for financial reporting, reinsurance, investment, proposition development and pricing, developing both technical skills and a commercial understanding of the market. You will challenge the capital adequacy of the business and engage with the wider Risk team to ensure adoption and adherence from the business alongside providing technical risk opinions to the business. You will promote a culture of sound risk awareness to increase risk identification and mitigation and will help to implement processes and ensure alignment with strategic business objectives and Group risk appetite.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with actuarial experience with a Life insurance background. 

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Support the operation of a robust financial risk framework, with close engagement with the wider risk team, the first line business and technical functions. Including leading/supporting Standard Formula Appropriateness, Actuarial Function Report and minimising model risk

  • Support the Chief Risk Officer in providing Risk opinions on reinsurance, investments, product design and pricing, risk appetite and capital analysis

  • Develop a deep understanding of the stress and scenario framework and provide technical support to the ORSA process

  • Identify and mitigate risks to the business and work to improve quality of processes.

  • Maintain appropriate level of technical expertise and knowledge of regulations, professional guidance and develop the understanding of UK business and strategy

  • Support and mentor junior members of the team

  • Create and maintain strong working relationships within other Risk teams, Finance and across the wider UK business

Your skills and experience: 

  • Nearly/newly qualified actuary (or relevant other experience)

  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of the insurance industry

  • Apply technical actuarial skills to report writing, problem solving and project tasks

  • Self-motivated and driven to deliver to set deadlines

  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks, managing expectations and stakeholders
