Risk Engineer (Part-Time, Job-Share and Full-Time)

Location: East of England - Home based with travel

Do you have experience in Risk Management, Project Manager, Mechanical or Design Engineer, are you a Fire or Climate Specialist or work in Facilities Management, building telematics or design, Insurance Property assessment, Broking Risk Management, Insurance underwriting or claims, .………whatever you do, Risk Engineering could be for you.

The scope of a Risk Engineer is broad, exciting and brings with it a diverse portfolio of customer facing interaction with the satisfaction of truly delivering for our customers. We are looking for someone who has passion, enthusiasm, innovative thinking and a proven track record of delivering.

Ensuring effective risk-based decisions are made and provide integrated & innovative solutions. To help and support customers to understand and improve their risk profile, increasing profitability. protecting customers interests and providing our underwriting colleagues with the risk management insight.

This is a challenging but rewarding role where customer service, technical credibility, project management and consultancy experience are essential. You’ll want to lead the charge when it comes to creative solutions and will be full of ideas around how we can look at innovative ways to do this. The role requires consultancy skills to help drive insight to the customer’s business and identify opportunities for delivering additional value added services that results in further revenue streams for Risk Engineering.

The opportunity: 

We have an opportunity to join our Risk Engineering team. On this occasion we are looking for candidates located in the East of England to cover Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of North Essex.

The roles are home based and will require elements of travel and flexibility. The role is customer facing and acts as a technical resource to our customers and our business partners. We are looking for someone with experience in understanding the risks that businesses face relating to fire, non-fire perils and the impact of business interruption and how these risks can be mitigated through risk improvement programmes. Assisting our underwriters and customers in understanding & improving risk and generating revenue from the provision of consulting services. An insurance background is not essential, those from industry and commercial undertakings will be considered.

This role is available full-time, as a job-share, or part-time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time

Key Responsibilities: 

The role is varied, challenging but very rewarding, therefore accountabilities can be diverse in nature but will include:

  • Assessing Risk Quality and Loss Exposures for Property Damage and Business Interruption in order to assist Underwriters in Risk Selection. This will generally be prior to inception or at renewal, following losses or acquisitions.
  • Carrying out Risk Engineering Assessments on-site or remotely of a range of municipal, commercial and industrial properties with varying trade occupations, furnishing underwriters with Risk Engineering Reports and the customer with Risk Improvement Recommendations.
  • Undertaking portfolio analysis using Zurich analytic tools to cover areas such as overall quality of account, industry benchmarking, loss exposure and risk improvement management.
  • Prepare wrap-up reports and management information for Customer Stewardship meetings
  • Undertake desk top reviews of survey reports from Brokers’ and other Insurers to validate their findings for Zurich’s underwriting purposes.
  • Proactively manage the progress and completion of Risk improvement actions
  • To support claims validation and investigation processes
  • To provide thought leadership and technical insight to customers, business partners and colleagues.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and/or contribute to projects ensuring effective delivery.
  • Be fully conversant with the Zurich Risk Engineering proposition, identify and consult with customers and brokers where opportunities exist to generate additional revenue from the provision of additional value add services. 
  • Your skills and experience:

    The ideal candidates should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following requirements:

  • Be naturally curious, be able to provide innovative solutions and have an ability to recognise and generate revenue income opportunities
  • Project Management
  • Clearly demonstrate strong communication skills and be able to negotiate and facilitate as required
  • An ability to embrace empowerment and accountability.
  • A positive and proactive approach to using digital tools, having a capability to think innovatively in relation to how these can be utilised from a risk engineering perspective.
  • Produce detailed, accurate Technical reporting/Survey reports.
  • Identify and assess a range of risks and the adequacy of their controls (fire, explosion, natural hazards, theft/security, business interruption etc)
  • Ability to promptly research a technical issue, using technical references and resources and deliver viable solutions.
  • Has a tangible commitment to self-development.
