Here at Severn Trent we support flexible working, this is why we have a part time opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical or Civils) to join our Waste Treatment Design Team based in Finham (Coventry). The team are working on waste treatment quality programmes, ensuring we develop designs that represent the best TOTEX value and that are safe and easy to operate. This role will play a critical part on leading solutions and design development as well as providing a point of contact for peer review and advice to more junior team members.Let’s talk about the key accountabilities of the position.
You’ll engage with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally to understand the root cause of the problems and create high level appraisal and feasibility of conceptual designs to create innovative and efficient TOTEX solutions which resolve the business problem. We’d look for you to determine appropriate solutions (and costing, liaising with commercial colleagues) providing input to relevant papers and governance forums. You’ll undertake the role of Principle Designer (discharge duties as a client in accordance with CDM regs), contribute to the early development of commissioning plans and agree design assessment and design completion milestones with Project Managers. You’d have the opportunity to act as EA liaison throughout feasibility including pre-application advice and support, organise EA meetings and feedback key learning points to the team. Most importantly, in our innovative Design Teams we care about the development of our people and therefore you’d be expected to coach and develop the team to build capability and share best practice.The skills and experience required to be successful include.
Experience of working to standards, codes and practicesStrong communication, report writing and presentation skillsExperience of undertaking the role of Principle DesignerEvidence of coaching skills and building capability within your previous teamsExtensive experience of implementing CDM regulations in design processConsiderable experience of influencing a disparate set of stakeholders to deliver design objectivesWater sector experience or similar (Petrochem / Pharmaceutical / Food / Aerospace / PowerQualifications.
