Arup Façades is an enthusiastic, energetic, multi-disciplinary team working on all aspects of the Building Envelope. It includes Engineers, Technical Specialists, Building Physicists, Material Specialists and Architects, all of whom share a passionate interest in building envelope design.

About this career opportunity…

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Façade Specialist / Engineer to join our team in London. We are currently working virtually but once we get back to an office environment it is important you can visit the London office regularly. To take up this role you will need to report to one of our UK offices.

Work will cover all façade types, systems and materials as well as small bespoke pavilions and sculptures. 

The successful candidate will become a permanent member of our creative, friendly team and will work on some of the most exciting buildings in the world including high rise commercial and residential towers, prominent buildings in cities and international airports, stations and stadia. 

In addition, you will make an impact in this role by… 

  • Being part of the UK façade consultancy team.

  • Developing excellent solutions for the building envelope in collaboration with other facade specialists and see these from concept through to implementation.

  • Being part of the wider facade team developing facade design solutions in collaboration with other facade specialist on your projects from concept to implementation, including review and comment on detailed designs generated by specialist façade contractors. You will produce designs, analysis, drawings, reports, and general project correspondence.

  • Leading projects and being responsible for the delivery of our scope of services including managing a project team from within and outside the facade group.

  • Working directly with our clients, architects, contractors and supply chain.

  • Having several projects running in parallel at various stages in the project life.

  • Undertaking design yourself and using your knowledge and experience to guide graduate team members.

  • Producing drawings, reports, specifications and correspondence and helping senior engineer to manage time and budget.

  • Attending meetings and communicate with clients and design disciplines to establish their needs.

  • Reviewing technical submissions for compliance with design intent.

  • The role is externally focused and you will be asked to contribute to the winning of projects through your relationships and preparing bid documents.

To achieve in this role, you are likely to… 

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Members of Society of Facade Engineering or working towards these.  

  • Have a completed portfolio of good mixture of small, medium to large scale projects.

  • Have experience in facade design across a range of façade types, systems and materials is not essential but will be considered positively.

  • Have good working knowledge of national and international design codes and technical guidance.

  • Be skilled in the use of CAD and 3D modelling software such as (Rhino).

  • Be skilled in software for analysis or parametric design and scripting will be a welcomed advantage (e.g. Grasshopper or Python). 

  • Be versatile skillset including knowledge of detail design, structural and building physics, testing, inspections and investigations and site experience.
