The role:

We are seeking a Senior Landscape Architect / Landscape Planner to join our team in London. This is an outstanding opportunity to create a vision and grow a team within Arup building on Arup’s brand, project successes, and existing client relationships and requires a personable designer who can communicate to a wide variety of audiences and has the ability to win and retain support for projects and initiatives.

We have a diverse workload of high-profile projects across the UK and internationally, ranging in scale from environmental infrastructure design, major transportation projects through to restoration, town centre regeneration, streetscape design, and green roofs.

The landscape architecture business has established (and developing) landscape architecture teams in Arup that are linked with through a global network, led from our London office, in Brisbane, Bristol, Cardiff, Hong Kong, Leeds, Newcastle, New York, Solihull, Sydney and Winchester.

As a Senior Landscape Architect within Arup, you will be working alongside an unrivalled community of specialists, who will support and further your growth from the beginning. This role is listed as London based, however, we are flexible on the exact location of the role.

Requirements and skills:

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding report writing ability as well as an interest in design as part of a coordinated assessment process. We’re looking for the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

Crucial Skills and Knowledge:

  • A Masters or Post Graduate Diploma qualification in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Management.

  • CMLI accreditation with good knowledge of professional ethics and ethical framework.

  • Strong report writing skills are critical.

  • Demonstrable experience of landscape / environmental planning work (typically 5+ years) including experience delivering ES chapters, preparing LVIAs and LVAs, sensitivity studies and landscape/ townscape character assessments.

  • Strong team-working skills, project management experience, particularly working in multi-disciplinary teams including infrastructure, environment and transport.

  • Experience of leading projects and fee budgets, or a desire to develop the vital skills.

  • A strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; experience of using GIS is desirable.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the regional markets, the developers and the local planning authorities;

  • Specific sector experience in areas such as infrastructure, commercial development, urban regeneration, residential, education, health, energy, historic buildings and landscape planning strategic policy;

  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams;

  • Has previous track record in building relationships with clients;

  • Experience of mentoring, coaching and ideally delivering formal training in business development skills; and

  • A designer with strong visual communication skills and an ability to share ideas through sketching and hand drawing
