The opportunity

A new opportunity for a Senior Legal Advisor to join the Retail and Life Legal Team in Swindon.  You will be joining a team of 7 lawyers, who support the Retail General Insurance, Life, Funds and Investments business areas. The Swindon Legal Team forms part of a wider Legal and Co Sec Function based in both London and Swindon. 

This role will be predominately focused on supporting the Retail General Insurance area but may involve some cross over to support the Life business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a full range of legal advice to the Retail business, including supporting Retail propositions from concept to delivery to customers;

  • Provide legal advice and draft distribution deals with Intermediaries and MGAs (TOBAs, DAAs, Co-insurance arrangements, Partnerships and MGA arrangements);

  • Provide a full range of routine legal advice on existing and new commercial arrangements and distribution deals, including where relevant, competition law, data protection, IP and general commercial contract advice;

  • Provide training to the Retail business area on the above topics and any new legal and regulatory changes impacting them;

  • Manage a busy, fast paced workload which includes a diverse set of products (home, motor, marine, SME and Life/Protection products) and stakeholders at all levels within the organisation up to Board level;

  • Manage external resources on large projects and work with other members of the Legal and Company Secretary Function as well as Compliance and the Data Protection Teams;

  • Promote the practice of the organisational values, ethical and responsible business conduct.

  • Proactively detect and resolve material legal and regulatory issues.

  • Report on and escalate material legal and regulatory risks and issues in accordance with company governance processes.

  • Support Legal and Company Secretarial Function initiatives.

Your skills and experience:

  • Qualified in England and Wales with a minimum 6 years PQE (with at least 4 of these years in a non-contentious commercial role).

  • In house experience in a financial services environment, ideally with an Insurer or Insurance Intermediary (GI or Life) and knowledge of the regulatory landscape in which Insurers operate.

  • A good background in insurance law.

  • Experience in insurance distribution work would be desirable but not essential.

  • Ability to manage a fast-paced workload, work with internal clients across numerous functions and report to senior stakeholders.

  • Experience or exposure to Competition law, data protection experience and Intellectual property experience.

  • Occasional travel to support various Zurich offices, in particular London, Manchester and Brighton.
