Senior Marketing Manager - Part-time

Your new role

At Highways England, safety on our network is our number one priority. In your role as Senior Marketing Manager you will have the opportunity to make a real difference through your work on our behaviour change marketing campaigns. You will manage a team of two national campaign managers to plan and deliver high quality, professional, integrated marketing campaigns to the public. These campaigns all have the same overall high-level objective; to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the strategic road network.

You will work closely with colleagues from across our wider communications division to create a paid media campaign that is supported through our owned channels such as digital, partnerships, regional and internal communications. The campaign will also have a PR element, which will require alignment with our Press team. This role is a great opportunity to work closely with Highways England’s well-established quality in-house disciplines such as research and insight, behavioural science, evaluation and subject experts in areas such as safety, customer relations and delivery. Internal and external stakeholder management is a big part of the role as is the supplier management of our creative and media planning and buying agencies.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Drive effective forward planning and develop communications and partnership working with stakeholders, suppliers and other partners, providing communications advice, sharing good practice and coordinating activity
  • Create and plan marketing campaigns that deliver the communications strategy through appropriate choice of channel(s) and with relevant, clearly defined and measurable objectives
  • Specify and develop communications products and services, providing an effective design brief, coordinating multiple channels (owned, earned and ‘paid for’), liaising with key campaign partners, monitoring the performance of allocated staff and external agencies and taking remedial action where necessary
  • Manage allocated financial budgets, to ensure that expenditures are controlled and excellent value for money is achieved
  • Participate in the selection, relationship management and performance evaluation of external agencies to ensure that Highways England has access to high quality creative and production resources
  • Monitor, review and report on the outcomes of communications activities to evaluate and communicate their effectiveness, to identify and take remedial actions and to identify lessons learned to inform future activity
  •  To be successful

  • Demonstrable experience as a senior marketing communications professional with a good understanding of the wider communication context
  • Proven track record of managing marketing communications relating to behavioural change
  • Proven track record of working in a complex environment, leading a team and managing a significant budget
  • Effective people management skills with evidence of working successfully with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Specialist marketing communications knowledge and experience, underpinned by relevant professional qualifications or training
  • Evidence of relevant professional development or qualifications in marketing and membership of professional body
