What is the purpose of this role?

Perform all work within the CEFA contract, maximising efficiency and effectiveness and to ensure compliance with all relevant standards. All duties must be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the client.

What will this role involve?

  • As required, investigate any incidents related to structures examination activities and provide technical support and advice relative to these incidents
  • Undertake the process of engineering STE2 review and submission of examination reports within your region, including risk scoring and recommendations, in accordance with the contract specification and timescales
  • Ensure that the technical issues identified by the engineering team via report rejections and briefings are addressed and understood by the Resource Managers(s) and their examination teams.
  • Ensure that the route examination teams are supported by the regional engineering team in order to ensure that; Technically compliant reports are produced in a consistent manner with minimal rejections.Examiner competence is managed effectively, including briefing, training, mentorship and assessment.
  • Ensure that all work is undertaken to satisfy the requirements of the Contract KPI’s
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Network Rail, in order that their technical requirements are fully understood and implemented.
  • Maintain regular liaison with all key stakeholders on project progress, conducting regular reviews with Network Rail and your team.
  • Participate in the implementation of site audits, inspections and trials as appropriate.
  • Improve and evolve our systems, tools and processes so that we can drive efficiency and bring benefits to Amey and to Network Rail.

  • What are we looking for?

    Essential Skills, Qualifications and Training:

  • Have strong communication and inter-personal skills. You will relate well to colleagues, customers and suppliers at all levels
  • Be a self-starter, able to take responsibility and work with minimum supervision, at times under pressure
  • Ability to identify and share engineering best practice within the business
  • Have excellent organisational skills; be able to multitask and re-prioritise to meet changing needs and deadlines
  • Have proven ability to work in a team environment with a dedicated approach to project deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the technical specification and standards for the CEFA contract and structural examination
  • Demonstrable railway industry experience in structures examination, maintenance or assessment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures
  • Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer (additional relevant experience, qualifications or professional status may be considered in lieu on an individual basis)
  • Degree or HNC/HND in civil or structures engineering
  • STE2 competent
  • Computer literate with a full working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS excel
  • PTS
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Training:
  • STE6 Tunnel Engineer
  • A1 Assessor or Qualified Trainer
  • Knowledge of Network Rail’s assets and how they are managed
  • Relevant experience of working in a railway operating environment
