EDF has an exciting Opportunity for a Valuation & Modelling Manager based in our Whitfield Street office.

You will be part of the Investment & Investors (I&I) team, part of Nuclear New Build (NNB) Finance, which is responsible for analytical and modelling support to NNB projects including the development and ongoing management of their Investment Case financial models. The team is also active in the financial structuring of NNB projects, working closely with other finance teams and external advisers to develop and optimise financing arrangements.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in the update of the Hinkley Point C (“HPC”) Financial Model and the provision of analyses and reports to project stakeholders to meet our contractual reporting obligations and ad hoc requests for information. He/she will also support the Sizewell C (“SZC”) project via the update and ongoing development of its Investment Case financial model, and involvement in ongoing structuring activities including the analysis of different financing options under discussion with HMG and potential investors. 

The Person

The successful candidate will have responsibilities across both HPC and SZB projects as outlined:

Hinkley Point B:

  • Manage the update and ongoing development of the HPC Investment Case financial model and other supporting models and analyses (eg Equity IRR model, HPC Fuel Model, HPC Actuals Module)

  • Manage the preparation and submission of models, reports and analyses to meet HPC reporting obligations under the CfD and SOSIA agreements (including appointment and supervision of external auditors where applicable)

  • Manage the annual update of the HPC Investment Case financial model, and related reports and analyses, to meet HPC reporting obligations under the HPC Shareholder Agreement.

  • Manage the update and approval of the HPC Assumption Book to reflect the latest validated assumptions for the HPC Investment Case in collaboration with subject-matter experts within HPC and EDF.

  • Work collaboratively with Financial Planning and Project Controls teams to produce and validate the annual update of the Lifecycle Cost forecast for HPC.

  • Manage annual update of assumptions for FX and inflation for use in HPC cost estimation and reporting activities.

  • Perform ad hoc analysis of HPC financials to support investors and other internal or external stakeholders (eg preparation of analysis related to Alignment of Interest provisions and equity commitments).

  • Present results of modelling updates and analysis to HPC senior management and provide explanations for important movements and variances

Sizewell C:

  • Manage the update and ongoing development of the SZC Investment Case financial model and other supporting models and analyses 

  • Manage the update and approval of the SZC Assumption Book to reflect the latest validated assumptions for the SZC Investment Case in collaboration with subject-matter experts within SZC and EDF.

  • Support the Nuclear Development team on the design of the revenue and financing arrangements for the project through evaluation of different options in the SZC Financial Model and attendance at discussions with HMG and prospective investors.

  • Manage the relationship with the Financial Advisor to SZC (Rothschild) and collaborate with them on analysis and financial structuring activities

  • Present results of modelling updates and analysis to SZC senior management and provide explanations for important movements and variances

The Skills

Our Ideal candidate has:

  • Strong academic record, to degree level or equivalent, with a strong emphasis on a quantitative or numerate discipline

  • Extensive and proven experience of building and operating large and complex financial models; knowledge of modelling best practise and control methods are also essential to the role

  • Advanced Excel (including VBA)

  • Accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent)

  • High level of analytical expertise including knowledge of techniques relevant to financial valuation and manipulating large/ complex datasets

  • Ability to review and interpret financial statement outputs of models and implement changes to accounting and tax calculations as required

  • Excellent communication skills and experience of presenting complex material to senior management and external stakeholders 

  • Experience in and a strong understanding of UK Energy Markets, specifically pricing and regulatory frameworks for generation assets.

  • Knowledge and experience of project finance funded projects, and related accounting and taxation issues
